Alan Ritchson is in talks to star in Sony’s Helldivers movie, but the deal is not final. The Reacher actor would play one of the soldiers sent into battle for Super Earth, according to new trade reporting. The film is still scheduled for November 10, 2027, with Justin Lin directing.

Jason Momoa was announced for the movie earlier this year, then left the project in June. Sony kept the film moving and continued its casting search.

What would Ritchson be playing?

A Helldiver, though the character’s name and place in the story have not been revealed. In Arrowhead’s games, Helldivers are armed troops deployed by Super Earth against alien threats. Helldivers 2 turns those missions into chaotic co-op battles where even a well-equipped squad can be wiped out quickly.

Ritchson can carry a straight action scene, as Reacher viewers know. The interesting question is whether the film also keeps the game’s dry joke: its heroic recruitment pitch sits beside an endless supply of disposable soldiers. Sony has not revealed the movie’s tone or plot, so that remains open.

What is confirmed about the film?

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are making it, Lin is attached to direct, and the theatrical date remains November 10, 2027. Ritchson is only in talks. There is no confirmed lead, full cast, trailer or production start.
