Brad Pitt is set to return to World War Z. Paramount is moving ahead with a sequel, Edward Berger is attached to direct, and Dennis Kelly is writing the script, according to trade reporting published Friday. There is no release date, filming start or announced plot yet.
Pitt played Gerry Lane, a former United Nations employee trying to protect his family as a fast-moving zombie outbreak spread around the world, in the 2013 film. “World War Z 2” is shorthand for the untitled sequel; Paramount has not announced a final title. Earlier versions never reached production.
Berger and Pitt are the new combination
Berger directed All Quiet on the Western Front and Conclave. Kelly, whose credits include the series Utopia, is writing the new screenplay. Paramount has not described the story they are making.
The project previously passed through plans involving directors J. A. Bayona and David Fincher. Neither version made it to the screen. Pitt and Berger are now attached, but Paramount has not announced when filming begins.
What is still unknown?
Paramount has not announced where Gerry Lane’s story goes next, whether Mireille Enos will return as Karin Lane, or who else will join the cast. There is also no official trailer or sequel footage. The image above is from the original World War Z, not the new film.
