Jonathan Daviss will play Snoop Dogg in Universal’s Snoop, an R-rated biopic directed by Craig Brewer and scheduled for theaters on August 6, 2027.

Snoop is Universal Pictures’ biopic about Calvin Broadus Jr., better known as Snoop Dogg. Jonathan Daviss, who plays Pope Heyward in Netflix’s Outer Banks, stars as the rapper. Craig Brewer directs from his rewrite of a script first written by Joe Robert Cole. Universal describes the film as a definitive biopic about Snoop Dogg’s life and career. The production will use music from Snoop’s catalog and is the first project under Death Row Pictures’ overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment. Snoop is producing with Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Death Row Pictures President Sara Ramaker. The movie is scheduled for a wide theatrical release on August 6, 2027. Snoop Dogg said at CinemaCon that the film will be rated R, although the final Motion Picture Association rating has not been published.
