World of Warcraft Classic
Blizzard’s 2019 rerelease of early World of Warcraft, with an original-world experience and distinct Classic versions for different eras and rules.
Game Overview
Developer / Publisher
World of Warcraft Classic lets players revisit an earlier form of Blizzard’s online role-playing game. You create a character in Azeroth, complete quests, learn abilities, collect equipment, and explore alongside other players. Dungeons are adventures for small groups; raids bring larger groups together for difficult encounters.

Classic launched on August 26, 2019, in the Americas and August 27 in many other regions during one simultaneous worldwide release. Those are the rerelease dates, not the 2004 launch of the original World of Warcraft. Classic recreated the game before its first expansion.
Classic now describes several experiences. Classic Era stays in the original pre-expansion world at level 60. Progression versions revisit later expansions and their systems. Hardcore uses permanent character death on its realms, while Season of Discovery introduces its own changes. Confirm the exact version your friends play before choosing a realm, the server where your character lives.
Classic is separate from modern WoW and World of Warcraft: Forever. Modern WoW receives the newest mainline expansions; Forever builds new adventures on early Azeroth. This page covers Classic, not a promise that every Classic variant has identical content or rules.
