Super Mario Odyssey sends Mario far beyond the Mushroom Kingdom after Bowser takes Princess Peach. Each kingdom is a large place to explore rather than a short, straight course. You can follow the main route, then turn around to search rooftops, hidden rooms and small challenges for more Power Moons. Those moons fuel the Odyssey, the hat-shaped airship that carries Mario to the next kingdom. You do not need to find every moon before moving on.

Mario's new partner Cappy makes the biggest difference. Throw the cap at a suitable creature or object and Mario can "capture" it, taking control of what it can do. A frog jumps high, a Chain Chomp can smash obstacles and a Bullet Bill can fly across gaps. Not everything can be captured, so look for a target that reacts when Cappy lands on it. Cappy also helps Mario hit objects and reach places that a normal jump misses. The gallery shows how different the kingdoms and captured characters look.
Nintendo released Super Mario Odyssey worldwide for Nintendo Switch on October 27, 2017. It was developed by Nintendo EPD and published by Nintendo. One person can play alone, or a second local player can control Cappy. Assist Mode adds more health and route arrows if the 3D spaces feel unfamiliar.
