Rogue Legacy is a side-view action game about a family of adventurers entering a dangerous castle. Each run begins with an heir and a layout that changes. You jump through rooms, strike enemies and search for gold, but a fallen hero does not return. Instead, you choose one of their children for the next attempt. Each child can have a different class, spell or unusual trait.

Death still moves the family forward. You can spend the gold from a run on permanent upgrades to the family manor, giving the next heir more health, damage or other advantages. That makes the loop easier to understand: explore as far as you can, bring back gold, improve the manor and try again with a new character. Bosses and harder areas remain a challenge even after upgrades, so learning enemy patterns matters too.
Cellar Door Games first released Rogue Legacy for Windows PC on June 27, 2013. Mac, Linux and console editions followed. The ESRB lists the later PlayStation and Xbox versions as E10+ (Everyone 10+) in the US and Canada for Fantasy Violence and Crude Humor; the 2013 PC original did not carry that console label.
