Mortal Shell II

Each Shell has its own abilities and memories. Switch Shells to change your fighting style, and upgrade your melee weapons and sidearms. Combat has no stamina bar: break an enemy’s posture to create an opening for a critical hit.

The game launched August 20, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The Devout Edition adds an Obsidian skin set for all eight Shells. Its advanced-access period began August 17 and is over; buying it now does not let you start earlier than Standard Edition players.

To reset a Shell’s upgrades, buy Mether’s Severance from Merrick and give it to Zhirelle, the shell keeper. She resets that Shell and returns the Glimpses you spent. This option was added in the August 29 PC update; Merrick occasionally restocks the item as you progress.

The September 5 PC update introduced experimental Adaptive Difficulty under Game > Game Settings > Adaptive Difficulty. It is off by default and can be toggled at any time. Enemies grow stronger when you keep winning and weaker when you struggle. Night Mode can become harder, but this setting will not make it easier.
