Forza Horizon 5 is an open-world driving game set at a fictional Horizon Festival in Mexico. Instead of staying on one racing circuit, you can travel between desert roads, jungle tracks, beaches, cities, and a mountain volcano. The map is filled with different types of events. A road race asks you to stay fast on paved turns; a dirt or cross-country event rewards a vehicle that can handle rough ground. You can also explore without starting a race.

The opening introduces the world by dropping you into several cars and landscapes, then lets you choose what to tackle next. The Horizon Adventure campaign opens more festival areas and event categories as you progress. Earn or discover cars, adjust them in your garage, and try another vehicle if an event feels wrong for the one you picked. Seasonal changes affect the world, and online activities let friends drive together. The key beginner lesson is that a fast road car is not automatically the best choice for mud, rocks, or a steep climb.
Playground Games developed Forza Horizon 5 and Xbox Game Studios published it on November 9, 2021 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A PlayStation 5 version followed on April 29, 2025. The official cover shows the Mercedes-AMG ONE and Ford Bronco, the two cover cars highlighted by Forza, under the original game logo.
