Game Overview

Fallout 5 is Bethesda Game Studios’ next mainline Fallout game and is currently in preproduction. Bethesda describes it as the franchise’s long-range destination rather than a near-term release. The studio has not announced a setting, story, playable character, gameplay systems, platforms, release window, trailer or official artwork, so none of those details should be inferred from earlier Fallout games.

Bethesda says Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls VI are being developed on Creation Engine 3, a shared technology platform built since Starfield’s launch. The Elder Scrolls VI remains the studio’s primary development focus, with most of the team assigned to it. That places Fallout 5 at an earlier stage and explains why the announcement contains technology and scheduling context but no game-specific footage or feature list.

Several other Fallout projects are moving separately: Obsidian Entertainment is working with Bethesda on a new Fallout project, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remasters are in development, Fallout 76 has a Raven Rock expansion planned, and Fallout Shelter continues to receive new seasons. Bethesda presents all of those as distinct from Fallout 5. Until it publishes a dedicated game page, this hub tracks only the confirmed preproduction status and official studio updates.
