Dead Cells is a fast 2D action game set inside an ever-changing castle. You run, jump, dodge and attack while looking for the way to the next area. Enemies move differently, so learning when to roll past an attack can matter as much as getting a stronger weapon. You can find swords, bows, shields and other equipment during a run, then choose a combination that suits how you like to fight.

There is no checkpoint halfway through a run. When you die, you start a new attempt, with a chance to use permanent unlocks you earned and to take a different route through the castle. That makes each defeat useful if you noticed which enemy caught you, how much room you had to move and whether your equipment worked together. Some paths are not reachable at first; exploring and unlocking movement abilities opens more choices later. The gallery shows the game's side view, combat, traversal, different areas and a large enemy encounter.

Motion Twin developed and published Dead Cells. Its full release was August 7, 2018, after an Early Access period that started in 2017. It launched across PC, Mac, Linux, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Later updates and expansions added content, but the core loop remains: explore, fight, fall and try a better route next time.
