Borderlands 2 sends a new group of Vault Hunters back to Pandora, where Handsome Jack and his Hyperion Corporation control much of the planet. The main campaign follows your fight against him. It is a first-person shooter built around missions, character abilities and the gear enemies leave behind, so the next weapon or shield can change how you tackle a fight.

At the start, you pick one of four original Vault Hunters, each with a different action skill and upgrade path. You can play the campaign on your own or bring up to three friends. The five screenshots below show the range without pretending they are a single mission: a robot-heavy fight, a snowy encounter, a vehicle battle, alien wildlife and a second icy clash. Expect both human enemies and creatures, not one repeated arena.

Gearbox Software developed the original game, and 2K Games published it in North America on September 18, 2012 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The international launch followed September 21. This profile covers the base release, not later downloadable characters, collections or ports. The U.S. ESRB rated the original M (Mature 17+) for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Language, Sexual Themes and Use of Alcohol.
