Shulk's journey in Xenoblade Chronicles takes place across the bodies of the Titans Bionis and Mechonis. He carries the Monado, a weapon that can reveal future events, while the party travels through areas controlled by different forces. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 follows Rex and Pyra toward Elysium; Blades provide combat abilities and form relationships that affect the group. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 follows Noah, Mio, and their companions in a war between Keves and Agnus, where soldiers are raised for short lives.
The Future Redeemed expansion adds a new group of characters and connects parts of the wider history. Xenoblade Chronicles X uses a separate science-fiction setting: humanity reaches the planet Mira after Earth is destroyed, and a custom player character joins New Los Angeles. Ground travel, Skell machines, missions, and alien regions make that entry's map central to progression.
Across the games, combat runs in real time rather than through a turn queue. Players position a lead character, choose arts or abilities, manage cooldowns, and direct party members whose roles can include damage, healing, and defense. Quests, equipment, skill development, affinity, and optional areas add progression outside the main story.
The entries share ideas and references, but each has its own plot, setting, cast, and starting point. That structure lets a player begin with one title while still finding related systems and themes in the other releases.
