Social media makes the loose meaning spread faster. A short post has little room to explain the difference between a Disney Animation heroine and a member of the Disney Princess franchise. 'New Disney princess' is immediate, searchable, and familiar. Once enough accounts use it, the phrase can look official even when every post is repeating the same assumption.

The visuals encourage that reaction too. Billie has a carefully designed hairstyle, outfit, color palette, and magical effect that make her easy to recognize in one image. Those are normal needs for any lead character, but viewers associate them with the way Disney has introduced princesses for years. Her character design is doing its job before the audience knows her full story.

Billie Fits the Conversation, Not the Official List

Disney's Hexed page introduces Billie as an impulsive teenager who discovers secret magical abilities. Her powers take her and her mother Alice into the witch realm of Hexe. Nothing in that description identifies her as royal, and the current Princess site does not include her.

She still feels like a possible future candidate because Hexed is giving her a complete world instead of making her a supporting character. Hailee Steinfeld provides her voice, the story follows Billie's family history, and the marketing keeps her face and magic easy to recognize. Disney clearly wants viewers to remember her, whether or not the Princess brand becomes part of the plan.

The movie's directors have also talked about Billie as an imperfect heroine. She is not supposed to enter every scene with the right answer. That approach can help younger viewers relate to her, and it separates her from the polished idea some people still attach to the word princess.

Her relationship with Alice adds another difference. Hexed is being presented as a mother-daughter adventure, with both characters entering the magical conflict together. Billie may be the face on most of the images, but she is not leaving her family behind to meet a prince or rule a kingdom. The emotional center described by the filmmakers is closer to two relatives learning how to understand each other.

None of this prevents Billie from joining the official group. Mulan shows that Disney Princess membership does not require a royal birth, and several members are remembered more for courage and personal growth than romance. It simply means Billie's future status cannot be decided by checking whether her plot matches an old princess formula.

Disney may eventually add Billie to the official group, or it may keep Hexed separate. There is no reliable confirmation either way. For now, the online name comes from audience habit: when Disney introduces a young woman with magic, a personal journey, and a movie of her own, many people call her a princess before the company decides what to call her.
