Jalen Brunson is trading Madison Square Garden for the Law & Order: SVU set. The New York Knicks captain will guest-star in the fifth episode of Season 28, airing November 5 on NBC.
NBC has not revealed who Brunson will play or how large the role will be. The official set photos place him beside Mariska Hargitay and Ice-T, confirming that his appearance is more than a name mentioned off screen.
Brunson has never hidden his SVU fandom
The casting fits Brunson because he has talked openly about loving the series. During NBA All-Star media availability, he said, “I’m a big, big [Law & Order] SVU fan, and she knows that, Mariska Hargitay.”
That makes the guest role feel like a payoff for fans who have followed the friendship between the Knicks star and Hargitay. She attended the Knicks’ championship-clinching game at Madison Square Garden and celebrated with Brunson after the comeback victory.
For viewers who do not follow basketball, Brunson is the point guard and captain at the center of New York’s recent championship run. His calm public image and connection to the city make him an easy fit for a guest spot on a series that has treated New York as a character for nearly three decades.

Their Emmys moment set up the TV appearance
Brunson also appeared with Hargitay during the opening of the Emmys. The bit connected New York sports and one of the city’s longest-running television dramas, and it introduced him to viewers who may not follow basketball.
Now the connection is moving into an actual SVU episode. The role is still being kept secret, so it is not clear whether Brunson will play himself, a witness or someone pulled into the week’s investigation.
The appearance is part of a busy stretch outside basketball. Brunson is also scheduled to host the Saturday Night Live season premiere on September 26. Together, the two bookings show how quickly his profile has grown beyond the court.
Neither booking changes his main job, but both place him inside major New York television institutions. SNL lets him perform live as himself, while SVU gives him the chance to step into a scripted world he already knows as a fan.
Season 28 begins before Brunson arrives
Law & Order: SVU returns October 8 for its 28th season. Brunson’s episode follows on November 5, giving the show several weeks to establish the season before the guest spot.
The series has brought athletes and other New York personalities into its world before, but Brunson’s real fandom gives this appearance a more natural reason to watch. He is not simply promoting a team or product. He is stepping into a show he has repeatedly said he loves.
