Bill Murray is taking his golf game across Ireland in A Course Called Ireland, a six-part documentary series premiering October 25 on Paramount+. Author Tom Coyne joins him for a trip built around famous courses, unexpected detours and the people they meet between rounds.
Each episode runs 30 minutes. The cameras follow Murray and Coyne across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, moving from the first tee to local pubs and conversations that have little to do with keeping score.
Bill Murray is bringing friends and family
Murray’s brothers Joel and John join parts of the journey. The guest list also includes Irish actor Chris O’Dowd, comedian Joanne McNally and former NFL star Jason Kelce.
The series is unscripted, so the group is not following a tight competition format. Golf gives the trip a route, but the show is really about the people, jokes and small surprises that happen along the way.
Kelce appears with Murray on the course in the first official photos. O’Dowd and McNally bring local knowledge and a different kind of comedy to the trip. Longtime golfing companion Coyne keeps the group moving even when the day goes off schedule.
Murray has been linked to golf for years, both on screen and away from movies. He played the unforgettable groundskeeper Carl Spackler in Caddyshack and regularly appears at celebrity tournaments. A Course Called Ireland lets him play without turning the trip into another fictional role.
The series began with Tom Coyne’s book
The show is inspired by Coyne’s bestseller A Course Called Ireland: A Long Walk in Search of a Country, a Pint, and the Next Tee. The book followed his attempt to walk around Ireland and play dozens of courses.
The television version changes the exact route and adds Murray’s family and celebrity guests. It keeps the idea that a golf trip can become a portrait of a country. Coastal fairways, changing weather and local clubs become part of the story instead of simple backgrounds.
Where A Course Called Ireland will stream
All six episodes premiere October 25 on Paramount+ in most international markets. Latin America and the United Kingdom are excluded from that release. In the UK, the series will air on BBC Two, BBC One Northern Ireland and BBC iPlayer.
Casey Scharf and Morgan Roberts are the showrunners and executive producers. Chris Cottam directs the series. Stellify Media and Skydance Sports are producing.
There are plenty of travel and golf shows, but Murray gives this one a loose, personal center. The promise is not a perfect round. It is watching an actor known for surprise appearances wander into another unpredictable adventure — this time with Ireland deciding where it goes next.
