The series keeps the world and characters of Stranger Things but uses a separate voice cast. That lets the animated show revisit the younger versions of Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max during a point in the timeline when the live-action actors have moved far beyond those ages.
The winter 1985 setting places Tales From ’85 between Seasons 2 and 3 of the live-action show. Season 2 can continue filling that gap while introducing threats that belong specifically to the animated story.
