Most movies would be thrilled to reach $1 billion before leaving theaters. Spider-Man: Brand New Day got there before its second Friday.
After seven days in theaters, the movie had earned $1.155 billion worldwide, according to Variety. That total included $449 million in North America and $706.3 million from international markets. It also moved past Toy Story 5, which had earned $1.067 billion after opening in June.
So yes, Brand New Day is already the highest-grossing movie of 2026. The speed is the more surprising part. This did not happen after months of strong ticket sales. It happened in one week.
Spider-Man Passed the Rest of 2026 in One Week
The movie started with a $932 million worldwide opening, the second-largest global debut ever. Sony's final North American number reached $360 million, passing Avengers: Endgame for the biggest domestic opening on record.
It crossed $1 billion on its sixth day. Only Endgame, which reached that mark in three days, got there faster. Brand New Day also set new domestic records on Monday and Tuesday, showing that the crowds did not disappear as soon as opening weekend ended.
The comparison with Toy Story 5 puts the achievement into plain language. Pixar's sequel had been in theaters since June and was the year's previous leader. Spider-Man earned more in seven days than that movie had made in several weeks.
Box office means the money collected from ticket sales. It is not the same as profit, because theaters keep part of the money and studios still have production and marketing costs. It also does not tell us exactly how many people attended. Premium screens and higher ticket prices can raise the total. Even with those limits, $1.155 billion in seven days shows a level of demand that no other 2026 movie has matched.
Tom Holland Is Still a Major Part of the Appeal
This is Tom Holland's fourth solo Spider-Man movie. Audiences first saw his Peter Parker as a teenager, and many of them have grown up alongside him. That history gives Brand New Day something most superhero releases do not have: viewers already care about the person under the mask.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige credited both Spider-Man's lasting popularity and Holland's performance when discussing the record. That explanation is not complicated. Peter Parker is one of the most recognizable characters in entertainment, and Holland has played him long enough to feel familiar without making the role feel finished.
