Netflix says Usopp recounts the Straw Hats’ adventures to Chopper, the crew’s newest recruit. That framing makes the special more than a shot-for-shot remake. Showrunner Tom Hyndman told Netflix Tudum the team wanted new viewers to have an easier entrance into the world and existing fans to see familiar stories from a different perspective. Usopp’s taste for embellishment gives the comedy a reason to exist inside the story.

The events come from Seasons 1 and 2 of Netflix’s live-action ONE PIECE, from the East Blue toward the Grand Line. The special is not a new season of the live-action show, and it does not move the central timeline forward. Its value is seeing scenes and characters rebuilt with physical-looking LEGO rules and a lighter rhythm.

The Reddit discussion singles out the animation and a Zoro/Mihawk scene, though the person praising that scene had only watched that clip. Another viewer hoped to see Miss All Sunday in LEGO form and said they enjoyed the rest. The shared complaint is that the retelling races through a lot of ground in two parts.
