King Ghidorah may be the unseen monster in Godzilla Minus Zero, but Toho has not confirmed him. The new trailer gives fans three clear clues: a familiar cackling roar, gold lightning that tears through aircraft, and a shot of Godzilla falling from the sky. The title adds another clue because Ghidorah is also known as Monster Zero.

The trailer never shows the creature behind those moments. This is still a fan theory, even if the clues look deliberate.

What does the trailer confirm?

Godzilla survived the ending of Godzilla Minus One. The story moves to 1949, two years after Japan’s first fight with the monster, as officials organize a new extermination plan called Operation Narukami.

The footage shows aircraft attacking Godzilla, scientists studying the threat, and a second danger that characters clearly separate from Godzilla. It does not name or reveal that second creature.

Why do fans think it is King Ghidorah?

King Ghidorah is a three-headed dragon and one of Godzilla’s oldest enemies. Toho has also called him Monster Zero since Invasion of Astro-Monster. Four parts of the trailer fit that history:

  • A sharp, cackling roar near the end sounds like Ghidorah’s classic cry.
  • Gold lightning hits the aircraft. Ghidorah attacks with lightning-like gravity beams.
  • Godzilla falls through the sky as if a flying opponent dropped him.
  • The title Minus Zero can be read as a reference to Monster Zero.

No single clue proves the theory. Together, they explain why fans immediately started naming Ghidorah after the trailer arrived.

Could it be another kaiju?

Yes. The unseen attacker could be a different returning monster, a new creature, or a deliberate misdirection. Fans have also suggested Rodan, Mothra, Hedorah, and Biollante, but the trailer gives them fewer direct clues.

The footage confirms another threat without identifying it. King Ghidorah is the leading theory until Toho shows or names the creature.

Who is in Godzilla Minus Zero?

Ryunosuke Kamiki returns as Koichi Shikishima, and Minami Hamabe returns as Noriko Shikishima. Masami Nagasawa joins as Makoto Aoyama, a weather forecaster assigned to the Disaster Response Bureau, while Jun Kunimura plays Dr. Ogata.

Takashi Yamazaki again directs, writes, and leads the visual effects. The film is the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX. It opens in Japan on November 3, 2026, and in North American theaters on November 6. Its world premiere is set for September 26 at the New York Film Festival.

The next trailer could finally show the second monster. Until then, the roar, gold lightning, and Monster Zero name give fans a strong case for King Ghidorah.
