Furious is coming back. Disney+ has renewed the Hulu crime thriller for Season 2, just days before the first season’s August 31 finale. The announcement keeps Elizabeth Meriwether and Emmy Rossum attached, but it does not include a return date or any story details for the next season.
That timing is notable because Furious has not even finished its first run. The renewal arrives while viewers are still waiting to see how FBI agent Alice Black’s pursuit of serial killer Catherine Grace ends.
Season 2 is official, but the finale comes first
The first season finale is scheduled for Monday, August 31. Disney+ says the show is streaming internationally, while viewers in the United States can watch it on Hulu. The second-season pickup does not change the remaining episode schedule or add a premiere date.
The current season follows Alice, a former NYPD homicide detective now working as a probationary FBI agent, as she investigates a string of suspicious deaths. Her case leads toward Catherine, a calculated killer who uses manufactured intimacy to get close to her victims. Their paths keep narrowing until the investigation becomes personal.
Why Disney renewed it so early
Disney’s announcement points to steady growth rather than one giant premiere number. Viewership for episode seven was up 40 percent from the series premiere when measured after one day. The company also notes that the thriller launched with a 100 percent Certified Fresh score and was holding at 98 percent when the renewal was announced.
Those figures come from Disney’s own release, so they are not the same as a full public ratings report. They do show the reason the company is comfortable making a decision before the finale: the audience has kept building instead of dropping away after the first few episodes.
The show also gives Hulu and Disney+ a recognizable creative link. Elizabeth Meriwether created Furious after working on series such as New Girl and Dying for Sex, while Rossum is both the lead and an executive producer. The crime story has a clear hook, but the relationship between Alice and Catherine gives the series more room than a standard case-of-the-week thriller.
Who is coming back?
Disney has confirmed Meriwether and Rossum’s involvement in Season 2, but it has not announced the returning cast. Lola Petticrew plays Catherine in Season 1, alongside Quincy Tyler Bernstine as Nora, Scoot McNairy as Danny, and Jake Lacy as Marshall. Whether the finale leaves room for all of them to return is still part of the story the show has to finish first.
A renewal also does not automatically mean that Season 2 will repeat the same case. The series could continue Alice’s career, follow the consequences of the Catherine investigation, or use a new killer to examine another part of the same system. Until Hulu or Disney+ shares a synopsis, those are possibilities rather than confirmed plans.
What the first season is building toward
The finale has two jobs. It needs to resolve enough of the Alice-and-Catherine pursuit to make the first season feel complete, and it needs to leave the show with a reason to continue. The renewal removes the biggest off-screen question, but it does not spoil the ending itself.
Alice is still learning how to work inside the FBI, and Nora’s experience gives her a difficult model to follow. Danny brings the older homicide-investigation perspective, while Catherine keeps forcing Alice to question where justice ends and obsession begins. The show can carry those tensions into another season even if the central case closes.
The official Disney+ guide lists eight episodes for Season 1, with new installments released weekly after the first three. That gives viewers a straightforward way to catch up before the finale: all of the current season is available now except the last episode, which arrives August 31.
When will Furious Season 2 release?
There is no release date yet. Disney has not announced a production start, episode count, new cast members, or a synopsis for Season 2. The first season’s weekly schedule and the current renewal announcement should not be treated as a timetable for the next one.
The most likely next updates are a production announcement, a returning-cast list, and a new description of Alice’s next case. A trailer is probably much farther away. For now, the news is simply that Furious has another season waiting after Monday’s finale.
Should you catch up before the finale?
If you like crime dramas built around two people who keep trying to understand each other while working toward opposite goals, Furious is an easy one to sample. Rossum anchors the investigation, but Petticrew’s performance gives Catherine enough control and unpredictability to make the pursuit feel like a two-person story instead of a single detective chasing a villain.
The Season 2 renewal means the finale is not the last time we will see this world. It still has to earn its ending, though. Will Alice close the case, lose control of it, or discover that the person she has been hunting has changed the rules entirely?
