Andrew Law created DANG!, but he initially hesitated to voice its lead character. The adult animated comedy premieres September 8 on Netflix, with Law playing Andrew alongside Stephanie Hsu as Ruthie and Poppy Liu as Eunice.
In a September 5 interview, Law said he had grown more comfortable writing than performing. Matt Murray, Mike Schur and Alan Yang encouraged him to take the part. “I’m actually really glad that I put myself out there,” he said.
The three siblings live in New York City. Andrew and Eunice are used to their own messy routines when their successful older sister Ruthie disrupts them. Her carefully organized life has gone wrong, and she wants to spend time with them.
The voices behind the Dang siblings
Law voices the brother who shares his first name. Hsu plays the older sister, while Liu plays Eunice. Netflix also lists Noël Wells, Edi Patterson, Jared Goldstein, SungWon Cho, Al Roberts and Adam Pally among the cast.
Law said he learned from Hsu and Liu during recording. He also found the booth less stressful than a live-action set, with more opportunities to try different deliveries.
Writing siblings as an only child
Law is an only child. The writers contributed their own family experiences, including co-showrunner Murray, who grew up with three sisters.
Netflix identifies Law as the creator and describes DANG! as an adult animated sitcom. Its U.S. title page carries a TV-MA rating.
