The Uprising

The Uprising is a historical drama set during England’s Peasants’ Revolt of 1381. Andrew Garfield stars as Ploughman, an unnamed farmer whose grief and anger pull him into a mass rebellion against the government of the young King Richard II. Paul Greengrass wrote and directed the film. The cast includes Jamie Bell as John Ball, Cosmo Jarvis as Wat Tyler, Woody Norman as Richard II, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Katherine Waterston, and Sky Yang. Greengrass links Ploughman’s transformation into an outlaw to the period when Robin Hood ballads became widely popular. The film is not presented as a documented biography of a historical Robin Hood.
