Overview

The Dog Stars is Ridley Scott's adaptation of Peter Heller's novel about Hig, a young pilot who survives a devastating pandemic with his dog Jasper and Bangley, a military survivalist. The three have built an isolated and defensible homestead, but a mysterious radio transmission pushes Hig beyond its boundaries in search of other people and the humanity he still believes exists. Jacob Elordi plays Hig, Josh Brolin plays Bangley and Margaret Qualley plays Cima. Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong and Allison Janney complete the principal ensemble. Scott directs from a screenplay by Mark L. Smith, who produces with Scott, Michael Pruss and Cliff Roberts. 20th Century Studios released The Dog Stars in U.S. theaters on August 28, 2026. The film is rated R, runs 1 hour 58 minutes and is officially categorized as a thriller.
