Movie details
Terminator 2: Judgment Day is James Cameron's sequel to The Terminator. Years after the first film, the future AI system Skynet sends the liquid-metal T-1000 into the past to kill a young John Connor. The human resistance sends a reprogrammed T-800 to protect him, while Sarah Connor tries to stop the nuclear catastrophe known as Judgment Day before it begins. Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as the T-800, Linda Hamilton plays Sarah, Edward Furlong plays John and Robert Patrick plays the T-1000. Cameron directed the film, which won four Academy Awards and became a defining action and science-fiction release through its mix of practical effects, digital effects and the change from Schwarzenegger's original antagonist role to protector. The film's original U.S. release date remains July 3, 1991. For its 35th anniversary, STUDIOCANAL, Fathom Entertainment and Rialto Pictures returned Terminator 2 to U.S. theaters from August 28 through September 2, 2026, with 4K, RealD 3D, D-BOX, 4DX and other premium-format presentations. The reissue uses STUDIOCANAL's 2017 restoration and 3D conversion; the related Pixel Twelve article tracks dates, formats and showtimes separately from this film profile.
