Tender Loving Care follows Amy, a government child-protection worker who moves back in with her best friend Rosie after a failed relationship. Rosie is also a social worker and faces daily anger and resentment while trying to help people with limited support.
Amy’s parents, Birdie and Geoff, worry about their daughter while dealing with a crisis of their own. The film looks at care inside public institutions and families without losing the humor and small kindnesses in its characters’ lives.
Mike Leigh writes and directs Kate O’Flynn, Alice Bailey Johnson, Marion Bailey and Paul Jesson. The 107-minute UK film plays the San Sebastián, New York and London film festivals in 2026. Bleecker Street will distribute it in the United States, but no general theatrical date has been announced.
