Lee Byung-hun is funny and frightening as a fired paper worker who targets other job applicants. The family scenes work too, but some detours take too long.

Park Chan-wook directs this South Korean crime comedy, based on Donald E. Westlake’s novel The Ax. Lee Byung-hun plays Man-su, a paper worker whose job search leaves him struggling to support his family. Son Ye-jin plays his wife Mi-ri, who cuts expenses and returns to work while her husband plans a series of crimes.

Lee Sung-min, Yeom Hye-ran, Park Hee-soon and Cha Seung-won also star. The US release runs 139 minutes and is rated R for violence, language and some sexual content.

The film opened in South Korea on September 24, 2025. It is streaming on Hulu in the United States.
