Overview
Ninja Scroll is Yoshiaki Kawajiri’s 1993 supernatural samurai action film. Jubei saves a young ninja woman, Kagero, and their investigation into the mysterious deaths of an entire village uncovers a demonic conspiracy. The Japanese voice cast includes Koichi Yamadera as Jubei Kibagami, Emi Shinohara as Kagero and Takeshi Aono as Dakuan.
Kawajiri wrote and directed the feature. Yutaka Minowa handled character design and animation direction, Hiromasa Ogura was art director, Hitoshi Yamaguchi handled cinematography, Harutoshi Ogata and Yukiko Ito edited the film, and Kaoru Wada composed its music. The U.S. title listing rates the film R; it contains strong violence and adult material.
Sentai produced a new 4K restoration under Kawajiri’s supervision. The process began with a 3840 × 2160 scan of the original 35mm negative, followed by damage repair and color correction. This is a restored presentation of the existing feature, not an announced remake, new cut or newly animated version. The restoration had its world premiere at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival.
HIDIVE and Iconic Events Releasing present the restored feature in U.S. and Canadian theaters on October 4, 5 and 7, 2026. Participating locations and showtimes vary. The official event announcement lists a 94-minute runtime for this presentation; digital-store editions may display different runtimes. Sentai has also announced a limited-edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook for early 2027, without a more precise release date in that announcement.
The existing film is currently listed on HIDIVE in the U.S., with a subscription viewing option. That catalog entry does not establish that the service is carrying the new 4K restoration. The new master has no announced streaming date in the restoration releases. The October dates apply to the North American theatrical event; they do not establish a worldwide release or a current 4K stream. HIDIVE uses a TV-MA label for its catalog edition, while the U.S. digital-store film listing carries R.
