Overview
Mononoke The Movie: The Phantom in the Rain is a Japanese animated horror film directed by Kenji Nakamura. It is the first feature in the Mononoke film trilogy, released in Japan on July 26, 2024.
Asa and Kame are new maids in the women’s quarters of Edo Castle. Their friendship develops while a dangerous spirit threatens the household. Hiroshi Kamiya voices the Medicine Seller, Tomoyo Kurosawa voices Asa and Aoi Yuki voices Kame in the original Japanese version. Twin Engine and EOTA produced the film.
In the United States, the film is available with a Netflix subscription. Netflix lists Japanese original audio, an English dub and English subtitles; language options and availability can differ by country. It is a 2024 film, not the trilogy’s third chapter arriving on Netflix September 29, 2026.
