Overview

A beginner’s visual guide to Bastion’s PC control menu, keyboard-and-mouse, click-to-move and gamepad presets.

1. Find Controls under Help & Options

This guide uses the PC version with English menus. From the main menu, choose Help & Options directly below Story, then choose Controls. The Controls screen has three large preset tabs down its left edge. You will choose one of those tabs, check its name on the right and apply it with Confirm.

2. Pick Slinger-Style for keyboard movement

For keyboard-and-mouse play, choose the top left tab with four WASD keys. The description on the right should say Slinger-Style. You move with W, A, S and D while the mouse aims. The two mouse buttons use your two equipped weapons. In the default key list, LMB means left mouse button, RMB means right mouse button, and Spc means the space bar.

These are defaults, not a promise about a setup you have already changed. If you only want keyboard movement, keep Slinger-Style and skip the optional alternatives below.

3. Use the mouse or gamepad tab if you prefer

For mouse-led movement, choose the middle left tab with a mouse icon and check that the right-side description says Mason-Style. After applying it, left-click a point on solid ground to move there, or hold the left mouse button to keep moving. Do not expect left click to behave like Slinger-Style’s attack button.

For a supported gamepad, choose the bottom left tab with a controller icon and check for Trigger-Style. Use the controller’s displayed assignments rather than copying PC mouse-button labels. Choose the one preset you want; you do not need to activate all three.

4. Apply the choice with Confirm

When the correct style name is visible, choose the green Confirm button at the bottom right. It applies the selection. The nearby Defaults button restores default assignments, so do not use Defaults just to leave this screen. Return to your game once the Controls screen closes.

5. Test a short movement before a fight

Find the Kid: the small white-haired character with a red scarf. The official image below shows him on a stone path. It is a character-and-ground reference, not a screenshot of the Controls menu. Test on a clear patch of solid ground rather than at the edge of a floating path.

Look for the Kid’s white hair and red scarf, then test movement away from an edge.

With Slinger-Style, tap one WASD key and watch which way the Kid moves before holding it. With Mason-Style, try one short click on nearby solid ground. If movement does not match your chosen method, return through Help & Options → Controls, check the left-tab icon and right-side style name, then Confirm again. You are ready when the Kid responds to the input you selected.
