Super Mario Bros. Wonder brings the familiar run-and-jump Mario formula to the Flower Kingdom. Bowser disrupts the kingdom, and Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, and other playable characters travel through a series of short courses to put things right. Most levels move from left to right, but they are filled with side paths, hidden items, and playful changes to the scenery.

The big new idea is the Wonder Flower. Touching one can suddenly change how a level works: pipes may move, the viewpoint can shift, or the characters may transform. You can also find power-ups such as Elephant Fruit, which gives a character a trunk for smashing obstacles and spraying water. Badges provide extra movement or assistance, so a player can choose a style that fits the course.
Nintendo developed and published the game for Nintendo Switch on October 20, 2023. Up to four players can take on courses together locally, and online features allow other players to help in different ways. It is easy for a newcomer to start with the first courses, then return later to search for the secrets they missed. The official Mario Wonder cover identifies the game with its original character art and logo.
