Spec Ops: The Line follows Captain Martin Walker and a small Delta Force squad into a Dubai battered by catastrophic sandstorms. Their search begins as a military rescue mission, but the conditions and the people they encounter make the situation increasingly difficult to read. The game is a third-person cover shooter with squad commands and a story that questions the assumptions behind its mission. It is a violent narrative game, not a travel depiction of the city.

They are useful visual context without revealing a late story turn. The original North American release was June 26, 2012 on Windows PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Steam currently displays June 29, the international release date; the North American publisher announcement is used for the first release field.
Yager Development made the game and 2K Games published it. The U.S. ESRB rates Spec Ops: The Line M (Mature 17+) for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence and Strong Language.
