Rise of the Ronin

Japan is opening to Western powers after three centuries under the Tokugawa Shogunate, and war, disease, and political unrest divide the country. Players create a nameless ronin whose choices build relationships with historical figures and shift loyalties among anti-shogunate, pro-shogunate, and Western factions. The open world can be crossed on foot, horseback, or by glider. Combat combines katanas, spears, firearms, grappling tools, stealth, and the demanding timing associated with Team Ninja’s action games. Rise of the Ronin launched on PlayStation 5 on March 22, 2024, before reaching Windows PC through Steam on March 10, 2025. Team Ninja developed the game, with Koei Tecmo publishing the PC version and Sony Interactive Entertainment publishing the original PS5 release.
