Pokémon Silver Version sends a rookie Trainer from New Bark Town through Johto after Professor Elm offers a first partner. Gym battles, a rival's challenge, Team Rocket's return, and the search for new species turn the region into a long route from the first badge to the League. Lugia is Silver's cover legendary, while Ho-Oh, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, and the Unown give the late game its own targets.

As in Gold, the Game Boy Color cartridge tracks a real clock. Time of day, weekdays, and timed events affect what a Trainer can find, while Steel and Dark types, held items, breeding, friendship, and new evolutions expand the original battle formula. Link Cable trades and battles let Silver connect to Gold and older Red, Blue, and Yellow cartridges through the Time Capsule; the version split is part of the collection design, not a separate story.
Choose a starter with the full journey in mind and check which species Silver cannot catch before settling on a final team. The original game belongs to the 1999 Japanese/2000 North American release cycle and remains compatible with Game Boy hardware. The later 3DS Virtual Console edition is a faithful re-release, while Pokémon SoulSilver is a Nintendo DS remake with different presentation and added systems. The original cartridge uses Lugia branding and its own encounter table.
