MechWarrior 4: Vengeance follows Ian Dresari after the destruction of his family and the seizure of his homeworld, Kentares IV. The campaign places his resistance against forces tied to Katherine Steiner-Davion and the wider civil war in the Inner Sphere. Missions move through different environments and objectives, while new equipment and surviving machines expand what the resistance can field.

The game is a first-person BattleMech simulation rather than a conventional run-and-gun shooter. Choose a chassis, distribute armor, assign weapon groups, and manage ammunition, range, and heat inside the MechLab. In combat, sensors, torso and leg damage, movement, terrain, and the strengths of Clan and Inner Sphere weapons all affect the result. Lancemates can be assigned roles and orders, and salvage from completed operations can become the next mission's advantage.

Start with the training material and check every weapon's effective range before a mission. A heavy build is not automatically safer: excessive heat can shut down a powerful 'Mech at the wrong moment, while a lighter machine can survive by changing position. Give lancemates clear jobs, keep an escape route, and use the MechLab to remove weapons you cannot feed with ammunition.

This page is for FASA Studio and Microsoft's 2000 Vengeance release, not MechWarrior 4: Black Knight, the 2002 Inner Sphere or Clan Mech Paks, MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries, or MechWarrior 5.
