It Takes Two is a co-operative adventure that cannot be played alone. Cody and May are a couple in trouble. After their daughter Rose turns them into dolls, they have to cross a strange version of their own house and garden to return to their bodies. The story is about their relationship as much as it is about escaping each area. The game keeps changing its setting and the abilities given to each character, so one chapter can feel very different from the next.

Each player sees their own part of the action, often in split screen. To move on, Cody and May must combine different tools: one may create an opening while the other uses it, or both may need to time a jump together. There are platform sections, puzzles, boss fights, and small optional games to discover. If you have never played a co-op game before, the simple question in each room is: what can my character do, what can my partner do, and how do those actions connect?
Hazelight Studios developed the game and Electronic Arts published it on March 26, 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. A Nintendo Switch edition followed later. You can play together locally or online; EA's Friend's Pass allows a person who owns the full game to invite a partner who does not, subject to the platform's current terms. The official poster shows the two doll versions of Cody and May and the game's own logo.
