Immortality begins with a mystery about Marissa Marcel. She acted in three films made decades apart, but none reached the public, and Marcel disappeared. Instead of walking through a conventional game world, you examine recovered film clips, rehearsals, and behind-the-scenes footage. The performances are filmed with real actors, and the story includes unsettling images and mature themes.

The main action is searching the footage. Pause on a person or object, select it, and the game jumps to a visually related moment elsewhere in the archive. A face, piece of clothing, or prop might lead to another film or another decade. You choose which connections to follow and slowly work out how Marcel's different roles fit together. There is no simple checklist that tells you every clue you have missed.

Half Mermaid made Immortality, led by creator Sam Barlow, and released it on August 30, 2022 for PC and Xbox Series X|S. It is best approached as an interactive film investigation, not an action game. The official cover features Marcel inside a burning picture frame, matching the game's focus on lost cinema.
