Horizon Zero Dawn follows Aloy, a young hunter who lives among human tribes in a world filled with machines shaped like animals. She wants to understand where she came from and why the machines are becoming more dangerous. The main story sends her across forests, deserts and old ruins, but you can also take side quests and find small settlements on the way.

Fighting is about observation as much as aiming. Aloy's Focus highlights machines and helps identify parts that can be damaged or removed. A bow is important, but traps and other tools can give you space when a large machine charges. You gather materials from the world and fallen machines to craft ammunition and supplies. If you are new, the safest first habit is to look at a machine from cover, check its weak points and move to a good position before attacking. The gallery shows Aloy’s scale beside the machines, a bow fight, and several kinds of landscape; those scenes explain why rushing at everything is a bad plan.
Guerrilla Games developed the original Horizon Zero Dawn and Sony Interactive Entertainment published it for PlayStation 4 on February 28, 2017 in North America. Other regions launched shortly after. A Complete Edition, a PC port and a later remaster are different releases; this page uses the first PS4 date and cover. Some gallery images are publisher-supplied PC screenshots of the same game, rather than captures from an original 2017 PS4 disc.
