Horizon Forbidden West continues Aloy's journey through a future Earth where animal-like machines share the land with human tribes. A spreading blight and violent storms threaten people's food and homes, so Aloy travels into the Forbidden West to find the cause. You can follow the main story, explore settlements, help characters with side quests, and uncover ruins left by an earlier civilization.

Battles reward observation. Aloy's Focus can scan a machine to reveal weak points and removable parts before you choose a weapon. Bows, traps, stealth, and movement can all help against enemies much larger than Aloy. Outside combat, a Pullcaster, glider, climbing routes, and underwater travel open more places to investigate. Players new to Horizon can understand the immediate threat, although this is a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn.
Guerrilla developed the game, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on February 18, 2022. The PC Complete Edition arrived later and should not be mistaken for the original launch. The official cover shows Aloy before the wild landscape and the full game logo.
