Halo 4 resumes Master Chief’s story after the events of Halo 3. Chief and Cortana awaken from the drifting Forward Unto Dawn and reach Requiem, a world filled with unfamiliar technology and new threats. The campaign is a first-person shooter built around changing weapons, moving between cover, reading the shield bar and using the space around each encounter. It is a continuation, but the central conflict and Cortana’s role give the game its own focus.

The original Xbox 360 edition also included competitive multiplayer and Spartan Ops, an episodic cooperative mode. The Xbox-supplied gallery below moves from Chief aboard a ship to a close encounter with an alien opponent, a first-person corridor, a conversation with Cortana, and a multiplayer firefight. These are examples of the game’s distinct story and play perspectives, not a step-by-step mission route. Current backward-compatible access and any collection version should not be confused with the 2012 original release.
343 Industries developed Halo 4 and Microsoft Studios published it for Xbox 360 on November 6, 2012. The U.S. ESRB rates Halo 4 M (Mature 17+) for Blood and Violence. Its summary describes weapon combat against alien forces and some blood effects; that is useful context for readers who only know the bright science-fiction setting.
