FTL: Faster Than Light puts you in charge of a ship and its crew on a dangerous journey. At each jump you may face a hostile vessel, a text event or a choice about scarce supplies. Inside the ship, you decide who repairs a damaged room, where to send power, when to fire and whether to risk another fight. A lost ship ends that run, so small decisions can matter well beyond one encounter.

The gallery gives a useful tour of the current game: intruders aboard your ship, combat near an asteroid field, an event with multiple responses, ship selection and an equipment screen. These publisher-supplied images include Advanced Edition interface elements. Advanced Edition was a later free update; its branding on the current official cover and screenshots does not mean the original game first launched in 2014.

Subset Games developed and published FTL on September 14, 2012 for Windows, Mac and Linux. Its own launch post explicitly mentions those three DRM-free builds. The U.S. ESRB rates FTL E10+ (Everyone 10+) for Fantasy Violence and Language.
