A trip with friends turns into a rescue mission when Jason Brody is captured on the Rook Islands. He escapes, but his friends remain in danger and the pirate Vaas is one of the threats he faces. Far Cry 3 tells that story through a first-person, open-world game: you travel between places on the islands instead of moving through one continuous corridor.

At an enemy-held area, you can study the space and try to approach quietly, or fight with guns and explosives. The jungle is not just a backdrop: wildlife appears alongside the human conflict. The images below separate those parts of the experience—a burning firefight, an attack on a helicopter, a tiger in the grass, a settlement battle and a close look at Vaas. They are official gameplay images, not a claim that all five scenes happen in this order.
Ubisoft published the original for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The U.S. Steam release date is December 4, 2012; release timing differed in other regions. This is Far Cry 3, not the separate Blood Dragon game or a later classic edition. The U.S. ESRB rated it M (Mature 17+) for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content and Use of Drugs. Steam currently says the original product’s multiplayer and online features are no longer available; this profile describes the single-player game.
