Expeditions: Samurai is a historical role-playing game set in Japan around 1600, as the Sengoku period's civil war nears its climax. Instead of following William Adams, the navigator who historically reached Japan that year, the game puts players aboard the Dutch frigate De Albatros before his arrival. You lead a crew of privateers through shifting alliances, political intrigue, and decisions that can change the fate of companions and local communities. Encounters support stealth, gadgets, real-time positioning, and turn-based combat, while companion trust can develop into friendship, rivalry, or romance. The game also supports drop-in, drop-out two-player co-op with shared decisions and coordinated ambushes. It launched on Windows PC through Steam Early Access on August 7, 2026. The current build is intentionally incomplete; Campfire Cabal and THQ Nordic target Q1 2027 for the finished version, with more quests, gear, crafting, village rulership, deeper character builds, and the complete story planned.
