Dragon Age: Inquisition opens after an explosion tears a glowing hole called the Breach into the sky. Demons are coming through smaller rifts, and people are fighting over who should lead the response. Your character becomes the Inquisitor, the person placed at the head of a new organisation trying to restore order. This is the third main Dragon Age game, but it introduces the central problem and your new character early enough for someone who did not finish the earlier games to follow. Familiar companions and past events add depth if you do know the series.

You create the Inquisitor and travel with a party of companions who have different combat roles and opinions. Exploration takes you through separate large regions of Thedas rather than one continuous map. In a fight you can act directly as one character, switch to another party member, or pause to plan what the team should do next. Choices made in conversations and major missions affect relationships and parts of the story. Outside combat, speaking with companions, gathering materials and building the Inquisition's influence are meaningful parts of the adventure. The game contains fantasy violence and mature themes; the calm landscapes in some screenshots are only one side of it.
BioWare developed Dragon Age: Inquisition and Electronic Arts published the original North American launch on November 18, 2014 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC; Europe followed on November 20. The Game of the Year Edition is a later bundle, so its 2015 date is not the game's original release. This page uses original 2014 publisher key art as the cover, not the later GOTY-edition cover, and its gallery uses images from EA's own game page.
