DOOM Eternal is a fast first-person shooter that sends the DOOM Slayer across an Earth invaded by demons and into other dangerous worlds. Its campaign is about surviving busy arenas, learning enemy threats, and using the right tool at the right moment. The game is the sequel to DOOM (2016), but it explains its core combat systems as you play.

The main rule is simple once you know where to look: a Glory Kill on a staggered demon restores health, the shoulder-mounted Flame Belch helps generate armor when burning enemies are damaged, and the Chainsaw turns a demon into ammunition pickups. Standing still and saving every tool usually makes a fight harder. Movement, weapon switching, weak points, and these three resource actions are meant to work together. Upgrades, Runes, and Sentinel Crystals let you adjust weapons and survivability as the campaign opens up.
id Software developed DOOM Eternal, and Bethesda Softworks published it on March 20, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia. The Steam client can show March 19 in Pacific Time because its unlock happened at the same moment as midnight on March 20 in eastern North America; Bethesda identifies March 20 as the launch date. Nintendo Switch and newer-console editions came later. The game also has BATTLEMODE, a separate multiplayer mode, but this page describes the single-player campaign first.
