In DOOM, you wake up at a Union Aerospace Corporation facility on Mars after demons have taken over. The campaign puts you in the armor of the Doom Slayer and sends you through the base and beyond it. This is id Software's 2016 game, not the original 1993 DOOM, DOOM Eternal or DOOM: The Dark Ages. It is also one of the bloodier games in this catalogue: combat and violent finishing moves are central to it.

The first thing to know is that you should keep moving. There is no usual wait-behind-cover routine and health does not simply refill after a pause. Watch the arena, circle around enemies and pick up health, armor and ammunition as you go. Guns serve different ranges, from the shotgun when a demon is close to heavier weapons for a larger threat. A weakened enemy can glow, showing that a Glory Kill is available; the close-range move gives you a reason to push forward rather than retreat. You can explore between fights for upgrades and secrets, but the main campaign keeps you moving from one combat space to the next.
DOOM also launched with online multiplayer and SnapMap, a tool for building and sharing levels. The single-player campaign does not require you to learn those modes first. Bethesda released DOOM on May 13, 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The official game cover carries its original DOOM logo; the gallery shows publisher-supplied views of the Mars facility, demons and first-person combat.
