Divinity: Original Sin begins with two Source Hunters investigating dangerous magic in the fantasy world of Rivellon. You create the pair, travel with companions, speak to people and decide what to do next. This is a role-playing game viewed mostly from above. It is not a fast action game: when combat begins, characters take turns, so you can read the battlefield and choose an action before the next turn starts. A new player can begin by talking to people in the first town, checking the quest journal and examining objects instead of looking for a single glowing route marker.

The game likes experiments. A surface on the ground can matter as much as an enemy’s health bar: water, fire and other elements can affect where it is safe to stand and which abilities will help. Your party members do not all have to make the same choice in every conversation, and the story allows different solutions. It can be played alone while controlling the group, or cooperatively with another player. In the official images below, the character portraits sit along one side, the small map is in a corner and action icons run along the bottom; those are useful landmarks if you are wondering where your party and skills are shown.
Larian Studios developed and published the original Divinity: Original Sin for Windows PC on June 30, 2014. Do not confuse it with Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition, a later revised release that also reached consoles. The Larian gallery on its current game page includes presentation from the updated era; it is here to show characters, combat and the interface, not to claim every pictured menu is identical to the first 2014 build.
