Madeline sets out to climb Celeste Mountain, but the trip is harder than she expects. She meets other people on the way, and their conversations give the journey a story beyond reaching the summit. Most of your time is spent crossing small, carefully designed rooms. You jump between ledges, dash through the air, grab walls and work out where to land before trying again. Spikes and gaps make the route dangerous, but a failed attempt sends you back quickly so you can test another approach.

The mountain changes as you climb. One screen might ask for a precise jump; another gives you more space but changes the way you move. Some rooms have a collectible strawberry off the main path. You can leave those for later if you simply want to see what happens to Madeline. Watch the colour of her hair and the objects in a room when learning when a dash is available again. The screenshots below show dialogue, hazards, open-air movement and several different parts of the mountain, so you can tell what the game looks like before playing.

Celeste was developed by Maddy Makes Games and released on January 25, 2018. It is a platform game with a story, not a climbing simulator. Its short rooms and fast retries make the difficult sections easier to practise one step at a time.
