Catherine mixes a story about difficult relationships with fast climbing puzzles. Vincent is caught between his longtime girlfriend, Katherine, and another woman named Catherine. His worries follow him into nightmares, where reaching the top of a tower is the way out.

Read full overview

In these stages, you push and pull blocks to build steps, then climb before the lower part of the tower falls away. The challenge is reading the shape of the wall and making a route while there is still time. Traps and changing block types make a familiar-looking stack less safe than it first appears.

The daytime scenes give the climb a different pace. Vincent talks with other people, faces questions about his choices, and deals with the consequences of his relationships. The story and puzzles are both central; this is not just a visual novel with an occasional minigame.

The original game first launched in Japan on February 17, 2011, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Catherine Classic brought it to Windows PC in 2019. Catherine: Full Body is a separate expanded version, not the original 2011 release described here. The cover artwork shown on this page is from Catherine Classic, the 2019 PC port.
