Assassin's Creed Syndicate takes place in London in 1868. You control twins Jacob and Evie Frye, two Assassins working against the Templars and the gang that controls much of the city. Jacob is more comfortable with a street fight; Evie is especially suited to stealth. While exploring, you can switch between them, although some story missions use a specific twin. The map divides London into boroughs. Each has activities that help loosen enemy control before a larger gang battle. You can also meet historical people, but you do not need a history lesson to follow the basic goal: discover who controls an area, weaken them and move through the city safely.

London's wide streets make movement different from older Assassin's Creed games. The rope launcher lets a twin climb high walls quickly or cross a gap between buildings without going down to street level. Carriages offer another route across town, but riding straight into a hostile area can draw attention. The gallery shows street crowds, a moving carriage, a rooftop near Big Ben, a long cross-street zipline and the two twins in a conversation. Those scenes explain how the city is laid out and why you might use a rooftop route rather than the road. During a mission, check whether the objective calls for a quiet approach before starting a fight.

Ubisoft Québec released the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 23, 2015. The Windows PC version followed in November. The Steam date belongs to its PC release; it does not change the original console date above. This is the original Syndicate, not the separate Jack the Ripper expansion. It is single-player. For a first session, learn to recognise your current twin, one borough's map objectives and the rope launcher's valid anchor points before trying to clear a whole district.
