Assassin's Creed Origins follows Bayek of Siwa, a Medjay whose search for answers takes him across ancient Egypt. Its story shows the events that led toward the Assassin Brotherhood, but you can begin here without knowing every earlier Assassin's Creed game. Cities, desert, waterways and tombs are part of a large map. The main quests carry Bayek's story, while smaller quests and exploration introduce local people and places. Violence is part of the story and combat.

For a newcomer, the loop is simple: choose a quest in the menu, travel toward its marker, scout the area, then decide how to approach. Bayek's eagle Senu can look over a location from above and help identify enemies and points of interest. On the ground, you can stay out of sight and use a bow, or fight directly with a melee weapon and shield. Origins changed combat compared with many earlier entries: you control individual attacks and dodges, and equipment has levels and types. If a quest feels punishing, check its suggested level and consider nearby activities before trying it again. The map is large, so you do not need to clear every marker before following the main story.
Ubisoft Montreal developed Origins, and Ubisoft released it on October 27, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is the 2017 game, not the Odyssey or Valhalla sequel. The official cover includes the game's own title and Bayek in Egypt. The gallery uses Ubisoft-supplied screenshots to show the desert, travel, combat and historical setting rather than a substitute photograph or fan image.
